The purpose of this page is to create a list of books that students who like to read the same type of books as you do will have a list of suggestions with a short description in your words. Each entry should be a paragraph of at least one sentence that summarizes what happens in the book without giving anything away (What is the book about?) and a second sentence that tells your reader why they should choose that book (Why should I read this book?).
Dovey Coe by France O'Roark Dowell
"My name is Dovey Coe and I reckon it don’t matter if you like me or not. I’m here to lay the record straight, to let you know them folks saying I done a terrible thing are liars. I aim to prove it, too. I hated Parnell Caraway as much as the next person, but I didn’t kill him." (1)
A well-written, smart, feisty 12-year-old girl, Dovey, will have to defend herself of murder as she works to protect her family from the "victim." This book is by one of my favoirte authors. She is able to create a smart, adventurous main character who speaks her mind and is not afraid to make down from money or fighting for what she believes is right. If you like strong female characters who overcome against seemingly insurmountable odds, you will love Dovey Coe!
